Personal Training FAQ'S

What does a Personal Trainer do?

A personal trainer is a fitness professional that conducts fitness assessments, creates exercise prescriptions tailored to clients, while providing supervision and instruction.

A correct exercise regimen design may result in improved overall health, body composition and physical function. Studies show that individuals who hire a personal trainer are most likely to be successful at reaching their exercise goals through proper prescription and instruction or factors related to motivation and adherence (the ability to stick to ones exercise program). A personal trainer will pay close attention to your exercise form, workout routine, and nutrition plan.

An in depth fitness assessment is a beneficial way to determine an individual’s current fitness level. Cardiovascular fitness, muscular strength, muscular endurance, flexibility, body composition and changes in vital signs and tested, recorded and summarized to decide on a starting point for those just starting an exercise routine. This data may also be used to chart the client’s progress during an exercise period.

How often do I need to see my Personal Trainer?

The start of a new exercise routine is a crucial time as people loose interest in the first month due to injury or lack of motivation. Schedule 2 or 3 appointments a week to see optimal results.

Working with our personal trainer alot in the beginning will help create momentum, learn how to do the exercises properly (to avoid injury) as well as create a relationship with your trainer. As you become more comfortable with the exercises and your trainer is confident in your progress, you will be able to do some of your workouts on your own as well as have gathered the motivation to keep it up.

What questions will a Personal Trainer ask me?

During the initial assessment the personal trainer will ask questions that will examine the demands that are placed on you from your job and lifestyle. These questions may include:

  • Your basic personal information
  • Your lifestyle factors (e.g. smoking or drinking)
  • Your daily stresses (e.g. long work hours)
  • Your medical background and health issues
  • Your fitness history
  • Your nutritional diet and habits
  • Your personal goals in relation to fitness

Our certified personal trainers will use this information to provide advice on nutrition, stress management, motivational techniques as well as create a tailored exercise plan. The added benefit of our Toronto clinic is that you have other services available in house if the needs arise (ie. Massage, Chiropractics, Physiotherapy, Sports Injury Therapy).
